horizon of nature: variegated flutterer dragonfly sighted in ningbo -k8凯发官网

on august 29, 2022, i spotted a particularly colorful dragonfly at dongqian lake, where i was photographing dragonflies. the way it flaps its wings resembles a butterfly. i later found out that it was a variegated flutterer. their wings are amber with black and brown spots. the variegated flutterer (or common picture wing), endemic to southern china, are rarely seen in zhejiang. this might be their first sighting in ningbo. they belong to the rhyothemis genus of the libellulidae family, which also has another member, the butterfly dragonfly, a "ningbo local".
