baoguo temple is located in the lingshan hills of hongtang subdistrict in jiangbei, ningbo. the temple is a complex of timber architecture from the tang, song, ming, and qing dynasties. in 1961, baoguo temple was named as one of china's first major cultural sites protected at the national level. the north-south central axis connects the main entrance, flag column, and several halls that once contained deity statues and scripture scrolls. off to the eastern and western sides, there is a bell tower, drum tower, and monks' lodgings.
today, baoguo temple is no longer a place of worship, but a museum of protected architecture. it is a 30-minute drive north of the city center. surrounded by the lush woods of the lingshan hills, it is still a peaceful recluse from the city's hustle and bustle.
