hey everyone and welcome to ningbo fun facts 101· legendary streets. let’s look at yaohang street this time. located in downtown ningbo, yaohang is a household street with a rich history. in 1708, under the reign of emperor kangxi of the qing dynasty (1662-1722 a.d.), the local administrator chen yikui partnered with cao tianxi and tu kaocheng – two druggists of traditional chinese medicine. to honor the three medicine kings — fu xi, xuan yuan and shen nong, they jointly built a temple, currently referred to as the “palace of medicine kings” by locals. every year on the 28th day of the fourth lunar month, magnificent sacred ceremonies are held here to worship the kings. neighboring the temple, yaohang served as the main street upon the founding of this port city. the modern-day street, however, has been widened and accommodates a bustling commercial atmosphere. lingqiao square (situated at no. 31 of yaohang street) has evolved from a locally favored shopping district to an emerging digital market. like a silent spectator, it has witnessed the city change throughout history. in the near future, the street will be zoned to accommodate a magnet block which features traditional chinese medicine culture, thus serving as a business card for international cultural exchanges in ningbo. now, what else do you want to know about other streets and roads in ningbo? just leave comments below!
